Section 2
Independence
GSR’s editorial judgment belongs to GSR
Global Scenes Reports operates independently of political parties, governments, candidates, corporations, advocacy organisations, ideological movements and other external interests.
Editorial decisions are made according to newsworthiness, evidence, public interest and GSR’s professional standards.
Political independence
GSR does not exist to secure the election or defeat of any candidate or political party.
This does not prevent rigorous criticism of governments, politicians, institutions or public policies. Independence requires that criticism be based on evidence and legitimate journalistic inquiry rather than political allegiance.
During elections, all candidates and parties are subject to the same fundamental standards of verification and scrutiny.
Editorial and commercial interests
Advertising, sponsorship, commercial relationships or financial considerations must not determine GSR’s editorial conclusions.
Sponsored or paid material must be clearly distinguishable from independent editorial journalism.
GSR does not accept payment in exchange for favourable news coverage or the suppression of legitimate reporting.
Conflicts of interest
Editors, journalists, correspondents and contributors should disclose to GSR any material personal, political, financial or professional interest that could reasonably call their impartiality on an assignment into question.
Where a conflict cannot appropriately be managed, the journalist should not determine the relevant editorial coverage.
Invitations and interviews
An invitation to participate in a GSR interview, forum or programme does not imply endorsement.
GSR may invite competing parties, government institutions, litigants, experts and other relevant participants in order to improve public understanding.
A refusal or failure to participate will not ordinarily prevent GSR from reporting a matter where sufficient evidence exists to do so.
